Chapter 92: Breathe

The trouble began with something small enough to ignore and dangerous enough to matter.

Adrian stays beside Claire in the ambulance, grounding her through each breath while Lucy waits safely with Naomi.

Adrian understood that the next choice would be remembered long after the explanation. Lucy remained the line neither of them would cross. Whatever happened between the adults, their daughter would not be asked to purchase harmony with her own safety.

Claire tells him she no longer fears disappearing beside him because he has learned to see without possessing.

"I do not need the old marriage back. I want whatever we build next."

Claire felt the old instinct to protect everyone from discomfort. This time she let the truth remain in the room.

Adrian asks whether that means tomorrow, and Claire says it means today.
