Chapter 51: The Morning After Almost

For a few careful minutes, the world looked almost ordinary.

They stop before sex, choosing clarity over hunger. Morning brings awkward tenderness and a promise not to hide what happened.

Claire understood that the next choice would be remembered long after the explanation. They had become unusually honest since the divorce began. Honesty did not make the choices easier, but it stopped them from pretending that ease was the same thing as peace.

Claire says the kiss was real but does not change the hearing; Adrian says he understands.
