Chapter 27: Under Bellweather

Adrian once believed control could prevent loss. Lately, control seemed to be the surest way to cause it.

Claire and Adrian enter the tunnel with Owen and find Daniel injured but alive beside boxes of original financial records.

Adrian understood that the next choice would be remembered long after the explanation. Lucy remained the line neither of them would cross. Whatever happened between the adults, their daughter would not be asked to purchase harmony with her own safety.

Rising water cuts off the exit, forcing Claire and Adrian to trust each other through a submerged service door.

"If the door jams, you go first. Lucy needs you more."
