Chapter 33: The Dance Lesson
By Evelyn Hart · 136 words
Claire had learned that silence was never empty. It held every sentence people were afraid to say.
Adrian secretly takes dance lessons because Lucy wants a complicated routine. Claire discovers him practicing alone and laughs until he persuades her to demonstrate the steps.
Adrian understood that the next choice would be remembered long after the explanation. The old marriage had been built on assumptions. Whatever came next would have to survive questions, boundaries, and the possibility that love might not be enough.
Their bodies remember an ease their marriage forgot, but Claire steps away before nostalgia becomes consent.
"Missing you is not the same as being ready for you."
Adrian did not reach for a solution. He stayed, listened, and allowed the consequence to belong to him.
Owen arrives with flowers and asks Claire to dinner.
