Chapter 22: The Vote

The trouble began with something small enough to ignore and dangerous enough to matter.

Adrian enters the boardroom knowing he can retain control only by denying the Bellweather evidence. He instead reveals the investigation and recuses himself.

Adrian understood that the next choice would be remembered long after the explanation. Lucy remained the line neither of them would cross. Whatever happened between the adults, their daughter would not be asked to purchase harmony with her own safety.

The board suspends him. Helena votes against her father and loses her Halcyon position as well.

"A company that survives only through silence deserves to hear the truth."

Claire felt the old instinct to protect everyone from discomfort. This time she let the truth remain in the room.

Victor smiles and tells Adrian the criminal evidence has already been delivered to federal agents.
